Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 2.12.31 PMIf you are ready to transform your backyard, but don’t have the funds to do so, then it’s time to start following some smart saving tips. By starting now, you can budget and plan for the yard of your dreams. Here’s how to save for your dream backyard in 2016:

Plan the Design. Begin by planning the design for your dream backyard. Create a sketch so that you can lay out the placement of each area, such as a vegetable garden, flower beds, seating areas, open space, etc. Take measurements of your yard so that you know just how much space you have to work with.

Select the Features You Desire. Choose the features that you really want to have, such as a dining table and seating, a grill, water features, or a patio for entertaining. Do research on the approximate cost of those features so that you have a better idea of what your total cost may look like. You may find that you have to let some ideas go in order to get the design elements that are a priority. Think about how the space can most benefit your entire family and suit all of your needs over the years.

Set the Budget. Before you buy anything for the yard, settle on a budget that you know you can realistically handle. Since you will have priced the features that you want, you’ll have a clear idea of how much you need to spend. Once you know how much you can spend, then you can start to save.

Put money aside from each paycheck into a savings account that you have dedicated for the dream backyard project. Over time, you should be able to save up enough to purchase the features that you want and cover any labor costs for the work to be done.

These backyard tips will help you to create the outdoor space of your dreams. Start planning, set a budget, and be realistic about the features you want and need for a functional, stylish space. It may take some time and some discipline to save the money, but once you do, you will be able to make enjoy an amazing backyard for many years to come.

Lawn Tips To Maintain Healthy Grass All Year

30130441_lThe appearance of your lawn plays a large role in your home’s curb appeal. Homeowners have to do some basic upkeep in every season, and especially in the fall, to make sure that their grass stays healthy and attractive all year long. Here are some helpful lawn tips to help ensure that your property looks great in every season:

Spring and Summer Care:

In the spring, you will want to fill in any bare spots with fresh seed. This is the ideal time to sow seeds and fertilize the lawn. The soil begins to warm up, and the increase in rainfall helps to water the lawn and allow the seeds to grow into lush, new grass. Use a spike to aerate the lawn at this time.

Once the new grass has started to fill in, you can begin mowing. Mowing often will help your home look maintained and cared for. The first few cuts should be set at about an inch, as you don’t want to take off too much in the spring. Aim to mow on a weekly basis.

The summer season with blazing sun and increased temperatures can really wreak havoc on your grass. Maintain a regular mowing schedule, and water the lawn often to keep it looking green and lush. You can fertilize the lawn in the summer, but only if you keep it well watered. Be sure to check the forecast for rain, which will help your grass stay healthy. Consider installing an irrigation system so that you can easily and effortlessly keep your lawn watered.

You may also want to do some weeding in the summer. In order to rid an area of weeds, you need to dig them up from the root and remove them completely. Use a weed killing spray sparingly, and avoid spraying weed killing chemicals during times of drought.

Fall Care:

In the fall, you need to prep the lawn for winter. Rake up and remove leaves, fertilize, and aerate. By taking the time to prepare your lawn in the fall, it will survive well throughout the winter.

Don’t lust after your neighbor’s lush lawn any longer. You too can have a lawn that inspires envy. By following these simple landscaping tips, you can have healthy grass that you’ll love in every season.

Top Patio Design Trends For Autumn 2015

10655427_10152465656102083_6763791038800108416_oPatio lovers can transform the look of their patio design this fall by following the hottest trends. Taking care of your home’s landsape design in the autumn will allow you to enjoy it throughout the season. Here are some of the top trends for autumn 2015 that you can incorporate in your outdoor living space this year:

Warm and Welcoming Harvest Decor

Bring the colors and textures of the season right onto your patio by decorating with features like corn stalks, bales of hay, colorful pumpkins and gourds, and beautiful hardy mums. Perhaps nothing says fall harvest more than a big pumpkin, so don’t be afraid to choose a large one to feature, surrounded by smaller ones. These natural elements will help to remind you of the season every time you step outside, no matter what the temperature feels like.

Simple Comforts

Since you likely won’t be doing as much outdoor entertaining in the fall as you would in the summer, keep the furnishings to a minimum. Enjoy cozy and simple comforts like wooden rocking chairs or a sturdy porch swing or glider. If possible, store some of the other furniture pieces away in preparation for the winter. A dining table is a great piece to keep out if you plan on serving up some warm fall comfort foods. Make the fire pit front and center as a place to gather around for warmth and relaxation. Add a few flannel blankets and toss some extra pillows around, too.

Set the Mood with Lighting

Since the sun sets earlier in the fall, you’ll need good lighting to enjoy the space in the autumn. Focus on soft, warm lights, like candles in lanterns, and strands of white twinkle lights. Choose a dimmer bulb for light fixtures so that you can take in that warm glow of a crisp fall evening. Lighting will really help to set the mood and create a cozy and inviting outdoor space that your family will love.

Patio lovers can still soak up every minute of the beautiful weather in the fall. It’s the perfect time to make your outdoor living space warm, comfortable, and cozy.

With the brilliance of October skies and turning leaves, most of us are eager to get out and enjoy the bounty of Fall events and festivals. Staying in and inviting friends over may be our most frequent choice, but there are times when exploring the wider world is more appealing. There is plenty to enjoy in and around Hilliard, Ohio, during this beautiful season.

Locally, our couple dozen parks are at their best this time of year and are perfect outings for family fun, whether it’s heart-pumping hikes or bike rides you enjoy or the tranquility of dipping a line in the water and waiting for a fish to bite. As a special Fall treat, you might enjoy exploring a new park or one you don’t visit often.

You can take your best pal — the four-legged, furry one — to Heritage Trail Dog Park for an off-leash romp and the opportunity to socialize with its own kind. The park has separate areas for dogs of different sizes. The splashpad of the park closes for the season Oct. 31.

Whether you travel alone or with friends and family, there’s a fall festival for you. Some of our recommended events are planned by the Hilliard, Ohio, Chamber of Commerce. A regional celebration of October’s best-known fruit will require a 30-minute drive.

If the 50s (the 1950s, that is) was your decade or you wish it had been, “Cruise In at the Alley” will crank up the nostalgia. Vintage cars, bowling and music of the era are on the program at Tin Pin Alley Oct. 17. This is a benefit for the Special Olympics.

An especially fitting festival for the season is just a 30-minute drive. The Circleville Pumpkin Show has carved out a full schedule from Tuesday, Oct. 20, to the final event at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. There will be music of many beats, parades of babies, pets and beauty queens along with vendors peddling anything they think will sell. Dishes made of the succulent orange orb will be available along with traditional festival fare. You can find the full schedule at pumpkinshow.com.

Then, on Oct. 29, back in Hilliard, the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Trick or Treat as a family fun event.

Of course, the best times of all may be after the events and between jaunts as you relax and rest in the serenity of your own outdoor-living space. We hope it is. If you have not yet created an oasis at home, why not call us? We’ll be happy to discuss possibilities.

Popular Fall Landscaping Design Options For Patio Lovers

1911664_10152040815607083_1217133883_nThe patio space can be one of the most decorative and inviting sections of the home, especially if the homeowner chooses to decorate seasonally. Keeping up with the styles of the seasons can be a great way to add more presence to the home itself, and the fall always provides interested patio lovers with plenty of inspiration when it comes to decorative options. By following some of these tips, it can be easy for any homeowner to get the design they want for their patio.

Orange and its Potential: There are some colors that just define a season, and orange has always been in style for the fall. Homeowners will have a variety of options when it comes to displaying the best of this fiery style and color, but it can also be a good idea to branch out and explore contrasting options as well. The bright colors of the fall can always stand out even better with the right accenting pieces. Homeowners are encouraged to introduce plenty of black, green and violet elements as well, especially with fixtures and furnishings that are designed to attract viewer attention.

Natural Fixtures: While the winter and the summer may be defined by the temperature changes, the fall and the spring have always been defined by the environmental changes. The fall is a particularly magical season because of how many new and different forms the familiar surrounding flora can take. Homeowners are strongly encouraged to incorporate some of these transitions into their decor. These can include any number of fascinating fixtures, such as statues or motifs that can complement the environment. And speaking of the environment

Include the Environment! One of the best inspirations to drawn from during the fall is the natural world itself. The patio can always be complemented with the presence of fallen leaves or twisting vines and branches. The introduction of these living elements can allow the more artistic and static ones to pop to life and vice versa. Natural colors can always complement the environment, and playing around with negative and positive space can allow homeowners to add a modern spin to traditional decorations.
